Every year sees the release of a brand new smartphone by Google in the Nexus series.
Google unveiled Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 in the late 2012 and 2013, respectively, giving rise to speculations regarding the late 2014 release of Nexus 6—expected to be launched as Android Silver—a new project by Google.
A representative from Google Sundar Pichai revealed in February that the Nexus phone will not be released during the first half of 2014. No further details regarding the launch were made public. Gadget leaker @evleaks has updated that the Nexus-like mobile phone, which could not necessarily be branded as Nexus, is not expected until February 2015.
Among many rumors churned out by the rumor mill, there are plenty of leaks regarding the the performance of Google Nexus 6. If these rumors are to be believed, the performance of the latest gadget by Google will be nothing less than 16 times the performance of a customary smartphone. Apparently, 16 nm scale chipsets are being manufactured for the smartphone, with a battery life supported by 3100-mAh, accompanied by True Octa-Core with 2.4GHz processor to ensure a performance that is unbeatable. The device could be available in 64GB and 128GB versions.
With a cloud of doubt hanging over the existence of Nexus 6, not much has been revealed in terms of features and specs. The much talked about smartphone could feature a 5-inch Ultra HD display. The camera sensor of the phone would apparently be 20MP with ultra low light sensitivity. The 4GB smartphone could come with health, thermo and atmosphere sensor, in addition to a fingerprint sensor. Reports also suggest that Nexus 6 could be made by LG, using LG G3 as a reference device. Maybe Nexus 5 having used the LG G2 as a reference fueled the buzz.
The story has taken an interesting turn as @evleaks has reported that Nexus 6 is dead and that Google will shift focus to the rumored Android Silver project, which could be aimed at the iPhone and could function in the manner of Google Nexus program.
Reportedly, Android Silver could make use of several manufacturers,
with LG and Motorola being rumored as two of the companies involved.
Intel has suggested that Android Silver devices would get quick software updates, will offer high-end hardware and will be launched in the United States, Japan and Germany.
One of the first Android Silver devices could be an LG-made device.
This might have been the culprit behind these Nexus 6 rumors. For all we
know, Nexus 6 could still make it.
